Organizational Background
Established in October 2006 with funding from the Mary H Rice Foundation, CORE Community Resources’ mission is to help seniors, defined as over age 55, stay independent, active and valued members of their community. Our service area includes communities in the northern part of Bayfield County. Services are offered free of charge because of generous donors and financial support from foundations.
Structure
CORE is governed by a Board of Directors who represent the geographic area served. This is a working board with committed individuals who support CORE with active participation on committees, planning special events, and contributions. CORE and ENCORE have a 5 person staff – an executive director, program coordinator, office manager, and 2 store co-managers.
Funding
ENCORE, our resale store provides financial support for approximately 50% of our operating costs. The balance comes from grants, individuals, and foundations.
Mary Dougherty is CORE’s Executive Director. She comes to us with abundant positive energy and dedication to the community. Her background in recognizing community needs and her belief in collaboration & collective action being keys to maintaining vibrant and resilient communities are the tools she offers to CORE and all she engages with. Mary is a poet of sorts, telling the story of Northern Wisconsin life, and using it to compel support in maintaining our rural way of life while advocating for the quality of living we all hope to grow old with.
